Satisfy my soul.
“Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.” Psalm 90:14
If my soul is satisfied in Christ, I will not seek to satisfy it with sin, accomplishments, people’s validation or approval. So, help me, God.
Open my eyes to the wonder of Your Word.
“Open my eyes, that I may behold wonderful things in Your law.” Psalm 119:18
At times I approach the Bible more out of duty than delight. So I plead out loud: Holy Spirit, focus me. Keep me awake. Stir my heart. Take my breath away with new discoveries in your Word!
Keep me from deliberate sins.
“Keep back your servant from deliberate sins; let them not have control over me.” Psalm 19:13
I know the bent of my heart. I know the sins that will grab me by the throat if I entertain them at all. Those sins will bring fleeting pleasure and escape, but I know what they could cost me: my reputation, my family, and my church.
Help me to live out of abundance.
“I came that they may have life and have it abundantly” John 10:10b.
I tend to get caught up in anxieties about the future. I face days and weeks where I don’t know how I’ll get it all done. When that sinking feeling sets in, I try to breathe in the abundance God offers for that very moment. Just His Presence. No past. No future. Just the moment—me and Him. Then I’m reminded that it will get done. Always has. He’s faithful.
Give me wisdom.
“Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you; love her, and she will watch over you. The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding” Proverbs 4:6-7.
The beginning of wisdom is this: I’m dumb. I’m dumb to what it really means to live life well. I need cosmic wisdom to know how to love my wife as she deserves, to guide my children into their destiny, to make the right financial decisions, to say yes or no to opportunities, to confront someone or let it go, to lead and pastor my church with God’s favor. God, help! Wisdom!
Thank you.
“This is the day the Lord has made; I will rejoice and be glad in it” Psalm 118:24.
I can be decently pessimistic, especially before the coffee kicks in. I plead this Scripture to remind me that the day before me is a gift from God to be received like a Christmas present—with joy, gladness, and gratitude. Gratitude that He’s given me all the resources I need not just to face the day, but face it with a smile and glad expectation of what He’s up to in the next 16-ish hours of my life.
Yes.
“He who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me, and he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will disclose Myself to him” John 14:21.
Yes. Yes. Yes. Lord Jesus, that’s my answer. Just tell me what you want me to do!
Amen.
